Google Taketh Away !!!!

Google has decided to remove the ability for other applications to read and write tracks within their MyTracks application.  Starting with MyTracks version 2.0.8 applications can no longer read or write tracks to MyTracks.  This effectively brings the Altitude Retriever app to an end with respect to MyTracks operation.

What can we do?
  • We can yell at Google.  Probably not going to work.
  • We can continue to use MyTracks 2.0.7.  That's what I'm going to do until I find something else to use personally but it's likely Altitude Retriever won't be in that picture.
  • Maybe export your tracks to GPX and still use Altitude Retriever.
I'm sure that you can find the APK for MyTracks Version 2.0.7 out there on the web.  If you use something like Titanium Backup you probably already have your own backups.  Please do not ask me for APK files for MyTracks as I cannot provide them...but I'm positive they can be found out there and side loaded onto your device.

I'll be updating Altitude Retriever very soon to detect MyTracks version 2.0.8 and disable the correction features for it.  GPX functions will continue to work.  It's likely that I will remove Altitude Retriever from Google Play at some point however if you have purchased it you should still be able to install it into the future.  I may also make the application free but a free version would include ads.  I guess nothing ever lasts forever.

My Elevation

RDH Software is pleased to announce the release of My Elevation.  Find it on the Google Play Apps listing here

My Elevation uses web services to get your precise elevation based on your coordinates. This is far more accurate than the elevation data provided by your device.
  • Follow Me Mode - Follows your current location and updates your elevation in real time.
  • Search Mode - Search for your favorite places.
  • Drop Mode - Long press on the map t drop an elevation marker.
NOTICE: Altitude can only be fetched for land surfaces that lay between 60 degrees north latitude and 54 degrees south latitude. Countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and most of the state of Alaska will not work. Please try the trial version first. Refer to http://1.usa.gov/Mq9AW7 for a coverage image.

Chas' Friendly Bill Splitter

RDH Software is pleased to announce the release of Chas' Friendly Bill Splitter.  Find it on the Google Play Apps listing here

This app can be used to split a restaurant bill among the diners particularly when some are drinking liquor and others aren't. This way you can split the bill equitably.
  • Food will be divided by all the diners.
  • Liquor will be divided out by only the number of drinkers.
  • Tax and any restaurant mandated gratuity will be proportionally split. Drinkers will pay a proportionally higher amount of these charges since they added more to the bill with their liquor charges.
This is not meant to be the end all, be all, of bill splitting apps. It provides a relatively simple way to split a restaurant bill among friends. That's why it's called a "friendly" bill splitter.
