Google Taketh Away !!!!

Google has decided to remove the ability for other applications to read and write tracks within their MyTracks application.  Starting with MyTracks version 2.0.8 applications can no longer read or write tracks to MyTracks.  This effectively brings the Altitude Retriever app to an end with respect to MyTracks operation.

What can we do?
  • We can yell at Google.  Probably not going to work.
  • We can continue to use MyTracks 2.0.7.  That's what I'm going to do until I find something else to use personally but it's likely Altitude Retriever won't be in that picture.
  • Maybe export your tracks to GPX and still use Altitude Retriever.
I'm sure that you can find the APK for MyTracks Version 2.0.7 out there on the web.  If you use something like Titanium Backup you probably already have your own backups.  Please do not ask me for APK files for MyTracks as I cannot provide them...but I'm positive they can be found out there and side loaded onto your device.

I'll be updating Altitude Retriever very soon to detect MyTracks version 2.0.8 and disable the correction features for it.  GPX functions will continue to work.  It's likely that I will remove Altitude Retriever from Google Play at some point however if you have purchased it you should still be able to install it into the future.  I may also make the application free but a free version would include ads.  I guess nothing ever lasts forever.
